My name is Kristina Ortega. I have been an educator in Catholic secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles since 2001. I have a BA and MA in Theology and a certificate in Catholic School Administration from Loyola Marymount University.
My family attends a Jesuit parish in LA. My areas of expertise are Catholic Education (secondary), DEI work within schools, Social Justice education, La Virgen de Guadalupe as a religio-political image, and 2nd gen/bi-cultural religiosity. I am also a mother of two and could speak for hours about raising young men in a Catholic multi-cultural household who will one day be the antithesis of "toxic masculinity"!
I am also a Minister of Liturgical Movement for the Archdiocese of LA and am interested in both lay participation in liturgy and in the use of movement (dance) as a form of prayer and worship. I am currently teaching a course called "Politics in the Pews" in which we examine the participation of American Catholics in the political process and am preparing to teach a course called "Faith and Media" which is absolutely an just excuse to watch all my favorite movies and television shows and to spend time engaging with my favorite IG and FB accounts!
